Nannycare is the UK-distributed goat-milk infant formula brand that many European parents have been using since the late 1990s. The milk source is the New Zealand Dairy Goat Co-operative, a specific farming cooperative in NZ that has been supplying goat dairy for infant formula since the 1980s, and the finished product is manufactured and packaged for UK and EU distribution. It's one of the oldest goat-milk infant formulas in the European market, alongside Holle Goat.

What makes Nannycare distinctive

  • New Zealand goat milk sourcing. NZ pasture-based goat farming has specific characteristics (year-round outdoor access, Southern Hemisphere feed cycle, different regulatory framework than EU dairy) that produce a slightly different milk profile than Dutch or German goat milk sources.
  • Long operating history. 1999-present, among the oldest goat milk infant formulas in continuous European distribution. Longer track record than Jovie (2020) or Kendamil Goat.
  • UK manufacturing and distribution. Packaged in the UK for European market, which means specific UK FSA (Food Standards Agency) oversight applies in addition to EU regulation.

The "why not organic" question

Nannycare has been asked repeatedly over the years why they don't carry organic certification. The brand's position (paraphrased from past manufacturer communications): their sourcing cooperative has pasture-based farming that effectively meets organic standards in practice, but formal organic certification adds cost and supply chain complexity they've chosen not to absorb. Whether you accept this positioning or prefer a certified organic alternative is a values decision, not a factual one.

My take on Nannycare for parents

Nannycare is the goat formula I recommend when the parent specifically values New Zealand sourcing over the Dutch/Swiss/German alternatives, and does not prioritize organic certification. The milk supply is a legitimately different regional ecosystem and has decades of goat-dairy infant-formula expertise behind it.

For parents who want organic-certified goat: Holle Goat or Jovie remain the top choices. For parents who want US-retail goat convenience: Kabrita. Nannycare's edge is the NZ source and operating track record — specific and real, but narrower than the alternatives.

Is Nannycare FDA-approved for sale in the US?
No. Nannycare is manufactured in New Zealand and labeled for the UK/EU market under Food Standards Agency oversight and EU Regulation 2016/127. It is not FDA-registered. US availability is limited, personal-import from UK resellers is the primary channel. Is Nannycare organic?
Nannycare is not certified organic. The brand's positioning is New Zealand pasture-raised dairy rather than organic certification. How does NZ goat milk differ from Dutch or German goat milk?
New Zealand goat farming is year-round pasture-based (mild climate permits it). European goat farming is typically seasonal indoor and pasture hybrid. NZ goats produce milk with a different fatty acid profile (higher medium-chain triglycerides in some studies) reflecting pasture composition. Compositional differences at the infant formula level are modest; the marketing differentiation is stronger than the nutritional one.
How does Nannycare compare to Holle Goat and Jovie?
Nannycare is NZ-sourced, non-organic, UK/EU labeled. Holle Goat is Dutch-manufactured, EU Organic, Demeter-adjacent. Jovie is Dutch-manufactured, EU Organic, premium positioning. Does Nannycare contain palm oil?
Yes. Nannycare uses a vegetable oil blend including palm oil (plus coconut, sunflower, and rapeseed oils). Parents wanting palm-oil-free goat milk formula should consider Kendamil Goat, which uses whole goat milk fat plus non-palm vegetable oils. Palm oil is permitted under both FDA, EU rules, and contributes palmitic acid present in breast milk.
What stages does Nannycare offer?
Nannycare offers Stage 1 (0-6 months), Stage 2 (6-12 months), and Stage 3 (12+ months, growing-up milk). The Stage 3 / growing-up product is outside EU infant formula regulation. All stages are goat-milk-based. No cow milk variant, no hypoallergenic option. Is Nannycare suitable for babies with cow milk protein allergy?
No. Goat milk protein and cow milk protein are structurally related and cross-react in the immune system of infants with diagnosed CMPA. Nannycare, like all goat-milk formulas, is not hypoallergenic despite common misperception. For confirmed CMPA the clinically appropriate path is extensively hydrolyzed (eHF) or amino-acid (AAF) formula under pediatrician guidance.
